Carlos Checa Fractures Pelvis, Out for the Rest of the Superbike Season

Ducati Alstare Team rider Carlos Checa was diagnosed with a fractured pelvis after his very brutal accident in Istanbul, Turkey and he will be missing the rest of the World Superbike series this year.
Checa took a very bad fall in the first free practice session last Friday and was first treated by the personnel of the Clinica Mobile at the track. The medical team first reported a contusion to the thorax and a suspected fracture of the left scaphoid, enough to make it impossible for the rider to continue with his racing weekend.

Returned to Spain on Sunday morning, Checa was examined by Doctor Turmo of the CAR clinic and then by Dr. Xavier Mir. Carlos complained about having a very hard time walking so Dr. Mir went ahead with new investigations.

Unfortunately, the Tuesday diagnosis of Dr. Mir speaks of a fractured pelvis, at the point where it joins with the femoral head.

Checa went into surgery today, under the hand of Dr. Ribas of the Dexeus clinic in Barcelona. He has a long period of port-surgery recuperation and will not take part in any races for the remainder of the 2013 season. We'll be back with news on his health soon, and we wish him the best of luck.
