BYD to Debut e6 Electric Car in the US This Year

BYD, the most optimistic car company in the entire world, is getting ready to step in the United States, a thing that could happen before the end of the year. The company will initially launch the e6, an all-electric car that is said to provide a maximum autonomy of up to 300 kilometers per charge.

Talking to the press representatives at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, BYD business manager Fred Ni said the e6 is going to be very affordable but hasn't provided a price range for the model. However, he did mention that a lease option is still a possibility but a final decision is yet to be made.

"We are in the process of signing up dealers,"
he was quoted as saying by just-auto.com

As for the sales goal, BYD hopes to sell several hundreds vehicles in the first year while aiming to raise figures to thousands in the next 12 months. And as a long-term plan, BYD is looking into ways to assemble cars directly in the United States and thus offer its cars at even a lower price.

This is probably one of the moves that would finally lead to BYD becoming the world's number one automaker by 2025 and the number one player in China by 2015. And according to US investor Warren Buffett - who holds a 10 percent stake in BYD - the Chinese carmaker has every chance to do it.

"BYD has a shot at becoming the world's largest automaker, primarily by selling electric cars, as well as a leader in the fast-growing solar power industry," he told the Fortune magazine according to China Daily.
