Button: Alonso's Happiness Is Not a Good Sign

The last couple of tests at Jerez have been quite concluding in terms of the title contenders for the season to come, at least as far as reigning Formula One champ Jenson Button is concerned. While admitting that he feels more comfortable with his car as time goes by, the 30-year old Brit revealed his worries rest with Ferrari.

After saying that the F10 currently looks like the most consistent car in the field, Button pointed towards Fernando Alonso's state of enthusiasm ahead of the new season. Shortly after the latest Jerez test, the Spaniard told the media that the Ferrari F10 is the best car he has ever driven in Formula One, making everybody rise their eyebrows.

Given that the 2-time world champion has been far from happy during his last two years in Formula One, his “happiness” ahead of the new campaign could only mean trouble for his rivals. And Button sensed that all too well.

I see a happy Alonso, and that's not good because it means he's fast,” said Button, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

Despite Alonso's enthusiasm, Ferrari's test driver Marc Gene insisted that nobody at Maranello is making any illusions on the performance level of the F10, as past experiences have taught the Ferrari engineers that something good can always turn into a fiasco.

The car is very reliable and the drivers are very happy, but we must be cautious. After the fiasco of 2009 we have no illusions, even though the F10 looks like a good car,” said Gene, according to the GMM news agency.
