Bullitt Chase Scene Recreated in Scale

There is probably no movie car chase more famous than that in Bullitt. When actor Steve McQueen and director Peter Yates set out to make the movie, the object was to make a realistic story and the most ambitious car chase in the history of American cinema at that time.

A recent Hemmings post has brought to our attention that one very enthusiastic and dedicated fan of the movie has undertaken a huge project: to recreate it at a 1/32 scale using stop-motion techniques. We are not talking about some amateurish version using children’s toys, but something that would make even McQueen proud.

There has been an almost obscene amount of attention paid to all the details in the background and everything from the sidewalks to the cars themselves. The short clip we can show you right now even matches the audio from the original with what was created in scale. This is a massive undertaking, considering he’s making all the buildings and street scenery from scratch.

Aside from the actors, the main star is a 1968 Ford Mustang fastback and a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. The original was picked apart and recreated so many times that it’s hard to still find an original twist. But this is only because it is so iconic and has kept audiences on the edge of their seats for decades.

It captured the imagination of car enthusiasts so much that some have seen it tens or even hundreds of times. A few have even gone as far as to buy a car based on the ones in the film.
