Bob Seger Cruises Woodward for New Music Video

Rock legend Bob Seger is on the verge of dropping his first album since 2006, and the music video for the lead single “Detroit Made” has just been released. The 69-year-old rocker is a Detroit-area native so it wasn’t all that surprising that a song with that title featured a heavy dose of the Motor City, but the video is a four-minute testament to Detroit – both good and bad.

Equally unsurprising is that classic cars are prominently featured throughout the video. Most of the footage was shot during the Woodward Dream Cruise, so the lineup of cars shown touches on all of the iconic decades of classic American automobiles. If you’ve never been to the Woodward Dream Cruise – one of the largest annual car gatherings in the world – then watching this video will give you a good idea of what you’re missing. Oddly enough, Seger’s face only appears once in the entire video, and still, it’s only on someone’s t-shirt.

In addition to the wonderful assortment of cars, the music video also shows plenty of Detroit scenery. This includes the landmarks such as the Joe Louis Monument, Hart Plaza, Fox Theater, Ambassador Bridge and the Renaissance Center (the headquarters of General Motors), but it also shows some of the city’s blight including rundown buildings like the historical Michigan Central Station and a few other dilapidated structures. .

As for the song itself, it’s about a “deuce and a quarter,” which is the nickname given to the Buick Electra – a car built in Flint, MI at GM’s former Buick City from 1959 until 1984. Seger’s signature raspy voice hits all the right notes, and hearing it on the radio should be just as fun as watching the video. The album, titled “Ride Out,” hits stores October 14, but pre-orders are available now. Head over to Rolling Stone to watch the video for yourself.
