One of the sweetest forms of business coming from automakers is that of customer racing programs. We are now focusing our attention on such a development coming from BMW. To be more precise, we are talking about the Z4 GT3 program.
As you may recall, the racer is already a star, as it claimed the Dubai 24 Hours title earlier this year. BMW has recently held a new series of test for the vehicle, aiming to enhance its aerodynamic efficiency.
Under the hood of the vehicle, the six-cylinder unit of the road-going version has been replaced with a V8 mill, which uses a six-speed sequential gearbox to send the power to the rear wheels. Of course, this is not the only difference between the two, as the aerodynamics area has also been heavily modified.
“BMW Motorsport engineers have also fine-tuned the aerodynamics of the BMW Z4 GT3 for the new season, improving the car's performance in this area. When it comes to electronics, the private teams can look forward to innovative BMW solutions: The modern ECU408 takes over the engine management, while the Power400 electronic control unit is responsible for controlling all the actuators. The power is transmitted through a six-speed, sequential gearbox. Gearshifts are now initiated using two paddles,” stated the press release.
If you’re looking for the hero status behind the wheel of the Z4 GT3, you have to know that the vehicle comes with a price of EUR315,000/USD455,000 (VAT not included).
