BMW Z4 Gets Retractable Aluminum Roof

BMW's Z4 is surely one of the most awaited models ever designed by the German manufacturer and every single news related to this specific car quickly gains our attention. For example, the updated Z4 will come equipped with a new retractable aluminum roof instead of a fabric roof, which will be supplied by German company Edscha.

Although the addition of such a roof is indeed good news, a more impressive thing is actually the fact that the top can be opened or closed in no less than 20 seconds, according to a press release of the German firm. The overall dimensions are now slightly different, with the trunk capacity raised to 310 liters when the roof is closed. This means the upgraded model provides up to 50 more liters compared to the traditional fabric top version, the manufacturer noted.

A thing worth mentioning is that the retractable aluminum roof we told you above is not the only thing sourced from various German suppliers. For example, the engines are mated to a seven-speed, dual-cluth automatic transmission supplied by German company Getrag. Furthermore, German suppliers Continental and Dräxlmaier also helped BMW in various areas, including engine harnesses, center consoles, control units, electric parking brakes and telematics.

The second-generation BMW Z4 was officially announced in December 2008 and was first showcased at the 2009 North American International Auto Show held in Detroit. BMW's new roadster will come in a choice of three engine configurations, with maximum output between 204 and 306 horsepower.

Compared to the previous versions of the car that were produced in the United States, the new model will be exclusively designed and assembled in Regensburg, Germany.
