Under normal circumstances, the Jaguar F-PACE SVR should have no business challenging the BMW X6 M to a drag race. Yes, they both have V8 engines, and yes, the one in the Jag is actually bigger, but that still doesn't make it a match for the Bimmer.
Did we mention the Bavarian sporty SAC (Sports Activity Coupe, for those of you who aren't up to date with all the acronyms of the automotive world) also has the Competition package equipped? That brings the total output of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 to 625 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque.
Since it's a performance BMW, it also gets launch control; and since it's an X model, that means it has the company's xDrive all-wheel-drive system as well to help it off the line. From there, it's the 625 hp that should do most of the work.
The Jaguar F-PACE SVR, on the other hand, has much less impressive stats. Its 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine is a thing of beauty, but its output is somewhat underwhelming, especially if you go by the crazy expectations created by the sound it makes. It's crazy that we can call 550 hp "underwhelming", especially when talking about an SUV, but that's just the world we live in right now.
Luckily, this particular F-PACE SVR has gone through a modding process carried over by Lister, as it's perfectly apparent by looking at the vehicle's license plate, tailgate, nose, sides, and headrests. Yeah, apparently Lister isn't exactly discreet.
Well, at least the looks - and the sound - matches the performance. With only a few tweaks, the tuner managed to squeeze 675 hp out of the mighty V8 and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque, which is more than enough to dwarf the BMW X6 M's performance, and with virtually no weight gains either. So, in theory, the race shouldn't be close.
As is the tradition in any head-to-head duel hosted by carwow, the two performance SUVs will have to compete in three separate trials: a standing quarter mile race, a roll race, and a braking distance challenge. With three bouts, we're guaranteed to have a winner. Or are we?
