It looks like BMW is getting ready to fill yet another motor show with yet more of its concepts. Rumor has it the X4 sports utility coupe will make its debut as a concept in Detroit in a couple of months. The 2013 NAIAS starts at the middle of January, and will be our first chance to sample the car which the Bavarians will no doubt put into production.
The X4 will be based on the same platform that underpins the X3, the current one, not the next one. Coincidently, it will have the same length and wheelbase as the X3, which is built in the US.
As a production model, the X4 will be 4.65 meters long (183 inches) which is about the same as the F25 X3. The X4 will also inherit the engine range from the regular crossover, and it will be offered with rear-wheel drive.
According to some reports, BMW doesn’t want to put another five-door crossover on the market, so the X4 will be sold exclusively as a three-door. This is perhaps the biggest question about the chassis of X4.
