BMW has unveiled their 4000-strong fleet of Olympic vehicles consisting of cars, motorcycles and bicycles which will be used to transport everybody from officials to athletes and volunteers around the Olympic Village and London. Of the 4000 vehicles, 2697 are cars (2457 BMWs and 240 MINIs) and the rest are two wheeled vehicles both motorized and otherwise.
The main car they’re planning on using is the 320d in saloon form (1550 of them). It will also be used for the Olympic Torch Relay and as a support vehicle for cycling events.
The entire fleet averages 64.5 mpg (4.37 l/100km) which more than meets the criteria set by the organizers. “Our London 2012 fleet shows what BMW technology can achieve today in terms of fuel economy and low emissions, including the first major presence of super clean EU6-compliant cars on UK roads. We look forward sharing our vision of sustainable urban mobility during the Games, including our revolutionary electric vehicle technology at the BMW Group Pavilion in the Olympic park.”, said Chris Brownridge, UK Marketing Director for BMW.
Thanks to their new and constantly evolving and improving engine technology, 80% of the fleet is EURO6 compliant, two years before it becomes mandatory.
