The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that will take place this year seems to be bringing more innovations from car makers than the usual brands that we’ve seen unveiling their latest smartphone of table or whatnots. One of the most interesting stands will be BMW’s that has already announced some really new technologies will be shown here for the first time.
A couple of weeks ago we learned that a fully automated parking i3 will be shown, a car that has the capacity of looking for a parking spot and actually using it on its own, technology that will be found on the upcoming 7 Series as well. Now, BMW says that they will also introduce two more premieres.

The first one is intelligent laser light. The Bavarians were the first company to put laser headlights into production with their i8 and that was viewed as a rather interesting achievement on its own. Now, they are taking things even further offering what we presume to be the same functionality as on the LED Adaptive Lights.

What that means is that the high beam laser light will be capable of avoiding incoming cars or those in front of you thanks to cameras, sensors and driver assistance systems. No more details were offered for now but things are looking interesting to say the least.

Next to the intelligent laser lighting system there will also be a display of OLED technology for the rear lights. It’s basically the same system that was first introduced on the Vision Future Luxury Concept back in 2014.
According to BMW, “by contrast with LEDs, which are a point light source, OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes) generate a uniform light across their entire surface. The elements are very thin at just 1.4 millimeters in thickness. This allows individual modules to be activated separately and opens up new possibilities for the design of rear lights.”

It all sounds exciting but until we actually see them in action we can’t tell if it really is as good as they paint it out to be. If you’re curious you can check these new features at South Plaza in the CES show grounds, BMW Area, Silver Lot #3 at the Convention Center in Las Vegas starting January 6.
