This weekend was perfect for the two BMW Sports Trophy teams that race in the Nurburgring 24hr endurance race. During the qualifying runs they managed a one-two-three-four win thanks to great strategy and reliable technology.
The number one spot went to the number 25 BMW Z4 GT3 car driven by Maxime Martin, Marco Wittmann and Uwe Alzen. Runner ups were Jens Klingmann, Dominik Baumann and Claudia Hurtgen while the podium was completed by car number 19 with Lucas Luhr, Alexander Sims, Dirk Werner and Dirk Muller. Last, in fourth place, was Team Marc VDS’s second car driven by Bas Leinders, Markus Palttala, Nick Catsburg and Dirk Adorf for a perfect finish after 6 hours.

What makes the win even more impressive is the fact that the four started from 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th on the grid but consistent lap times and no technical difficulties helped them claim this perfect finish.

After 5 hours of the race, the drivers and the teams were already focusing just on bringing the cars home, having the top of the grid in their grasp. One possible contributing factor could’ve been the laser lights the Z4 cars used for the first time in history.

“It's a great result for us, which we couldn't necessarily expect after qualifying. My team-mates, Marco and Uwe, did a fantastic job,” said Maxime Martin after the race.

“We concentrated on a set-up that worked better in the race than in qualifying. In qualifying we saw we had a lot of work to do. But we were consistent and reliable, and that's what counts on the Nordschleife. We were also lucky, of course, that our rivals had to contend with problems,” said Jens Klingmann, second place.

“We knew from the start that we don't currently have the quickest vehicle in the field, but it was very reliable. We only had a few problems with the tyres. Our strength is that we have four cars with an almost identical squad of drivers,” added Bas Leinders, fourth place.
