BMW gave the car more power than its rivals. With an electric motor that produces 170 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque, the i3 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and hits a top speed of 150 km/h (limited).
From its extensive trials, BMW has leaned that on average, people only drive 64 km per day, so they gave the i3 a real world range estimated at 130 to 160 kilometers, equivalent to 81 to 99 miles. The benefit is that the car is not ladened with a heavy burden and is thus more efficient. If driving range is a concern, than a range-extending two-cylinder petrol engine is available on the i3 REX model and offers a combined maximum range of approximately 300 km (180 miles).
