After the German Finance Minister, Wolfgang Schaeuble warned that failure to beat youth unemployment in the UE could tear Europe apart, BMW almost immediately took action and announced a new program for young people.
According to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, BMW's Personnel Chief, Milagros Caina-Andree said that the Bavarian company is looking to give something back to its customer countries and do whatever they can to help.
They just announced that BMW is going to recruit a small number of unemployed young Spaniards to work in Bavaria, aged 18 to 25. The selected few (probably around 25) will be trained for a year at the manufacturer's headquarters.
"They should be immersed in German culture, possibly live with a BMW host family and work in development, sales, marketing or another area. After that, these young people can go back home or stay here," said Caina-Andree.
Even though 25 people might not seem like much, the BMW endeavor is a first of any automaker in Germany and will set an example for other companies.
