BMW Receives Two 10 Best Engines Awards

BMW proudly announced today that two of its engines, namely the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged DOHC inline-6 and the BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance technology, received two 10 Best Engines awards from Ward's Automotive Group. Obviously, the German automaker was extremely pleased with the awards and continued to praise the two main attributes of the aforementioned engines: fuel consumption and engine performance.

"These two awards are further testament that BMW's EfficientDynamics engineering strategy is delivering the performance and efficiency that drivers expect today." said Hans Hohenner, General Manager of Drivetrain Development for BMW Group. "Each of these very different engines brings to market new technologies that combine to create the highest-performing six-cylinder engines BMW has ever produced while delivering fuel efficiency that was previously unattainable.”

This is the third Ward 10 Best Engines award received by the 3.0-liter unit since its official introduction in the summer of 2006. At this time, the engine powers no less than 11 models in BMW's United States lineup, including the 135i and the X6 xDrive35i Sports Activity Coupe. “This 300-horsepower engine features twin low-mass turbochargers, High Precision Direct Injection and electrified accessory drives for an unbeatable blend of power, efficiency, and responsiveness,” BMW commented on the engine features.

And 3.0-liter powerplant is indeed a high-performance unit as it is able to help the BMW 335i coupe accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in no less than 5.3 seconds, while providing a highway fuel consumption of 26 mpg.

The second awarded engine develops a maximum power of 265 hp and a top torque of 425 lb-ft, with fuel consumption rated at 23 mpg in city mode and 36 mph in highway configuration in the 2009 BMW 335d Sedan.

“In addition to the 335d model mentioned, this new engine will also be available in the X5 xDrive35d Sports Activity Vehicle, which is capable of 0 - 60mph in 6.9 seconds and 26mpg on the highway. Both Advanced Diesel models will be in BMW centers later this month,” BMW concluded in a statement for the press.
