German automaker BMW could recall about 76,190 vehicles built for the 2012-2014 model years over a potential brake issue, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced.
The affected models include 2012-2014 320i and 328i (including xDrive versions), 2014 328i xDrive Sports Wagon, 2012-2013 528i and 528i xDrive, 2013-2014 X1 sDrive28i and xDrive28i, 2013-2014 X3 xDrive28i, and the 2012-2014 Z4 sDrive28i.
According to the NHTSA, the oil supply in these cars could be restricted by a malfunction and cause the brake vacuum pump to fail due to lack of lubrication. This could result in a loss of power brake assist and increase the risk of a crash.
BMW says three minor accidents related to this issues have been reported, but none of them have resulted into injuries. The recall could commence starting November, when the German company will notify all customers.
