BMW has announced an increase in their sales of 13.2% in October, compared to the same month of 2011. They sold 157,618 units in total, whereas last year they sold 139,284, thus setting a new record high for the month. So far in the year, their sales have increased by 8.8%, having sold 1,493,153 units in total, compared to last year’s 1,371,903, again setting a new record high for the period.
The increase was driven by strong Asia sales, where BMW grew by 36.5% last month, selling a total of 41,028 units, with sales from the start of the year, and until the end of October rising by 28.1%, to 398,870 (311,290 last year). The Asian growth was spurred on by very strong China sales, in the wake of the ‘Japan problem’, which rose by an unprecedented 51.7%, selling 27,828 units, compared to last year’s 18,346 record for the same month.

Ian Robertson, Member of BMW’s Board of Management: “Following a record third quarter, the BMW Group posted its highest ever sales for the month of October. We achieved solid gains in many of our markets last month, especially in Asia and the Americas and we aim to continue the momentum in the next months. We are well on course to achieve a new sales record in 2012, despite the headwind present in some European markets.
