Last weekend was an important one for BMW Motorsport, as the carmaker’s racing arm successfully completed a series of tests for this year’s 24-hour Le Mans race.

Preparing for the French endurance event, two BMW M3 GTs (using car numbers 55 and 56) joined other 52 racers on the “Circuit de la Sarthe” on Sunday, completing a total of 147 laps. The 13.629 km of the track allowed the team to collect an important amount of data, which will allow the two vehicles to be prepared for the Le Mans big race, which is scheduled to be held on June 11-12.

Augusto Farfus (BR), Jorg Muller (DE) and Dirk Werner took the no. 55 M3 GT to third position in the GTE Pro class, recording a lap time of 4:01.631 minutes for the two four-hour test sessions. The other M3 racer was driven to seventh place, with a time of 4:03.856 minutes, by Andy Priaulx (GB), Dirk Muller (DE) and Joey Hand (US).

This test ahead of the 24-hour race definitely was an important one for us. Le Mans is such a unique and mighty venue that every single lap of this track helps. The team used the occasion to reacquaint itself with the special demands and workings asked for by this classic circuit,” said Team Manager Charly Lamm following the test session.

BMW Motorsport will use the same driver line-up for the Le Mans 24 Hours, aiming to not only win the race, but also score points in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
