BMW Makes ASC Available for Motorcycles with ABS II

Good news for some BMW motorcycle owners, as the German manufacturer decided to make its motorcycle rider assistance system ASC (Automatic Stability Control) retrofittable on a number of models in its lineup. In fact, the models in question are the ones with Integral ABS II.

BMW’s ASC system limits the drive torque in relation to the nature of the road surface and therefore the friction coefficient. This can be translated in a more efficient power transmission and no more rear wheel spin.

Furthermore, the rider is also able to completely deactivate the intervention of the electronic system at the press of a button, even while on the move.

“In the R 1200 GS models by BMW Motorrad, the ASC also features a special terrain function which is adapted to the slip conditions on loose surfaces such as sand and gravel,”
a company statement reads. “The change between the road and the terrain setting is conveniently made by means of a switch on the handlebar instrument panel.”

The list of BMW motorcycle models suitable to be retrofitted with ASC is detailed below:
  • R 1200 GS from chassis number ZS98694
  • R 1200 GS Adventure from chassis number ZN98790
  • R 1200 R from chassis number ZS14531
