The guys from Auto Express wanted to see first hand what's the big deal about Mercedes' new gem, the A45 AMG. Whilst the car looks damn impressive on paper, on the road is where you notice a lot of things.
The BMW has a 3-liter engine under the bonnet with 320 HP and 450 Nm of torque. The Mercedes goes into the battle with 2 less cylinders, 1 less liter in displacement and 40 extra HP, whilst the torque is the same.

Furthermore, the Merc is a full-on AMG car and that says a lot. The BMW is a semi M car but it's still a great little hatch. The Bimmer has a bit of roll in various corners and feel a bit heavier but that's something you'll feel only on the track.

Actually, that's the only place where the A45 AMG wins, on the track. Now, let's be honest: how many of the customers will take any of these 2 to the track? Almost none. They buy it for the badges and paper performance but not for what they will do with them.

In this regard, the BMW is the better choice thanks to its more comfortable suspension and practicability. Not to mention that the engine has a special feel to it, that you won't find in any 4-cylinder unit.

Watch the video below to see what Auto Express had to say about the two.
