At the moment, the range topping BMW 7 Series you can get is the 760Li version fitted with a 6-liter V12 engine, which is also the biggest unit in BMW’s range. However, BMW M Division Boss Albert Biermann would like to see things change.
In a recent interview for Autocar, Biermann stated that he would love to see an actual M7 come to life, to make sure the S8 and S65 AMG models aren’t the only ultra luxurious, super-powerful models in the full-size sedan segment. Furthermore, such a car would be a money-making machine if it would come to life and would put Alpina’s B7 model to shame.

“I would love to compete in this area of the market. The money is just there to pick up. An M7 would be a much different proposition to the B7,” Albert said.

The B7 is the most powerful 7 Series you can get at the moment, based on the 550i but with more power (540 HP) and more torque (730 Nm) than the BMW offering.

However, the Bavarian Management isn’t interested in such a model right now, the focus being on other models that are considered more important at the moment, capable of bringing in more sales, such as an AWD M5 and M6 and an M version of the 3 Series GT.

It’s actually quite a shame that an M7 is still not being looked into. If it was up to me, just as an exercise, such a model would use a special M engine based on the 6-liter V12 that would simply put to shame the S65 AMG and the S8. But that’s just my opinion, it seems like Dr. Norbert Reithofer thinks otherwise.
