As you might very well have noticed already, the BMW i8 has some futuristic looking wheels as standard already. They’re looking fabulous and serve two purposes at the same time. Apart from the visual impact, they also have a special dimension that reduces drag and therefore drives the fuel consumption down.
Of course, it was all done in hope that the i8 will not only look good but also live up to the hype of being the most fuel efficient sport car with a sub 5-second 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time. Even so, most reviewers complained about the car’s grip due mostly to the narrow tires it’s using.

A wheel manufacturer now fitted its own rims on the i8 though, and the results are spectacular. We’ve seen such attempts before but those were only renderings. This time, it’s the real deal and it’s killing it.

The guys from 6Sixty design are actually amongst the first to launch a set of wheels for the i8. The challenge in making them lies in creating a new stencil that mimics the dimensions of the standard ones.

You see, in order to fit the i8, the rims have to be no wider than 8.5 inches. The standard model has only 7 inches in width and that’s an unusually narrow profile for 20-inch wheels. Usually, they are at least 9 inches wide.

6Sixty seems to have done it already and they are introducing their new model, specifically designed to fit the i8. They are forged and called Socorro. Measuring 21 inches and being available in Liquid Blue color with polished lips, they fit the BMW perfectly. Unfortunately, the pricing was not released yet but we’ll keep you posted as soon as we learn anything.
