The BMW i8 is definitely a good-looking car. Everywhere it goes, people turn their heads to check it out but imagine how much attention a wrecked one gathers. One unfortunate Thai owner didn’t have to imagine that, he lived through it.
As we’ve come to learn, one Nissan Navara driver simply smashed onto the right side door of a BMW i8 in Thailand. The damage seems big enough to justify replacing the door altogether which should cost a pretty penny.

Why is that? Well, in case you’ve forgotten, the BMW i8’s body is made of CFRP and that simply won’t bend like sheet metal usually does but instead is a lot more rigid but easier to fix. In case of the doors in particular, they have a CFRP skeleton underneath a thin aluminum skin on the outside.

As far as we can tell, this is a Sophisto Grey BMW i8, one of the few colors the Germans are offering for their plug-in hybrid sports car. What we’re simply hoping at this point is that this i8 will return to its original glory once the work on it is done.

No more details are available at this time but we can tell you that a teardrop was shed deep inside our soul once we saw the pictures below. That poor scissor door...
