The BMW i3 was introduced in Australia alongside its i8 brother earlier this year but only as a show and tell vehicle, being kept out of dealerships so far and things aren’t looking great, at least for now.
Forced by the ever increasing demand for the new EV, BMW decided to keep the i3 out of Australia until November, as waiting lists for one such car, currently extent to nearly 6 months. When it will finally make it to the land below, the all-electric car will start at AUD63,900, going up to AUD69,900 for the one fitted with the range extender feature.
For Australia, buying such a car might not be a great idea, at least without the REx. On official records, the i3 will have a range of up to 100 miles (160 km) on a full charge, no matter of the weather or sun that is typically burning Australian lands. However, given the vast deserts of the country and the killer nature of all living things over there, running out of battery might be a threat to your life.
If you buy it for inner city usage alone, the i3 will do perfectly, a full charge probably allowing you to go to work and back for up to a week.
Acceleration times aren’t bad at all either, with the rear-wheel-drive EV doing 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 7.2 seconds while the one with the range extender will do the same speed in just 7.9 seconds. Four seats and eco-friendly materials make sure that this car will serve its purpose at all times.
Only four dealerships in Australia will initially be selling the car, located in Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, with 2 more coming in 2015 in Canberra and Adelaide.
