BMW Group Announces Record Sales in Malaysia

German carmaker BMW is well known around the world for its performance vehicles and this fact has lead to a decent feat on the global market. One country where the company is doing well is Malaysia, where the BMW Group saw a record sales result for its BMW, MINI and Motorrad brands which together sold 4,509 units in 2010, the best performance since its establishment in 2003.

Cars wearing the Bavarian badge contributed a total of 4,006 units to the result, while MINI sold 222 units and Motorrad managed 281 sales in 2010. “The year 2010 proved to be yet another historic milestone for us where we managed to set successful benchmarks in all areas of business,” managing director Geoffrey Briscoe said in a statement.

In addition to strong demand for the BMW 3 Series and BMW 7 Series, Briscoe attributes the excellent performance to the local launches of the BMW 5-Series, BMW X1, facelifted BMW X5 and improved MINI Cooper range, as well as the BMW S1000RR superbike.

“These strategic initiatives drove our performance for the year and moving forward, we fully intend to continue to deliver on our strategy of delivering the full range of BMW vehicles to Malaysia as soon as they are made available,” he also said.

Also considered a significant milestones in 2010 is the commencement of local assembly for the 5-Series and X1 in Kulim, Kedah, as well as the expansion of the local sales network with the opening of four new BMW dealerships (Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan, Butterworth and Johor Bahru), which increases the total number of dealerships to 15.

Furthermore, the group is committed to the introduce of BMW EfficientDynamics technologies in its entire product range, and also the launch of additional Advanced Diesel models.
