BMW has just introduced the new member of the F 800 series which is said to be sportier than any of its “brothers”. The F 800 R follows the same design line of BMW's K 1300 R but comes with considerable more power, thanks to its parallel twin with 4-valve technology engine. And because we started talking about the engine, find out that it has a displacement of 798 cc, already familiar from the F 800 S according to BMW, which provides a maximum power of 78 bhp (64 kW) at 8,000 rpm. The rated torque of the engine is 86 Nm at 6,000 rpm.
In order to make the new model sportier than its predecessors, BMW installed a new throttle valve kinematics system which makes the throttle even more sensitive, improving the engine response at lower speed range, BMW said in a press statement. The six-speed transmission system is now based on shorter ratio of the three upper gears, a fact that obviously improves the engine performance.
BMW says handling has also been improved, while the enhanced pulling power makes riding on country roads easier than on any other model in these series.
“F 800 R is by no means coincidental. In future, the motorcycle acrobat will be able to demonstrate his skills on a machine based on the new F 800 R. But the new F 800 R boasts more than just sporting talent: in the very best tradition of BMW it also possesses classic virtues such as outstanding seating comfort for rider and pillion passenger as well as an exemplary level of safety,” BMW stated in the press statement.
And the F 800 R is indeed a high-safety bike, with ABS and a newly adjusted pressure sensor system available as standard. Brakes are based on Brembo discs on both the front and the rear while the fuel tank has been repositioned under the seat for optimum center of gravity.
