At the moment, the F30 3 Series is not available in the USA with a diesel engine. That is understandable, considering the lack of interest the American market showed for the E9x diesel cars.
However, it seems that BMW decided to unveil its first choice regarding diesel 3 Series in late March, at the New York International Auto Show, according to LLC. The new diesel for the American versions will be a 2-liter 4-cylinder diesel instead of the outgoing 3-liter 6-cylinder one that's been riding in the 335d's body.
That means that the probable diesel that will be launched in the US will be the one on the 320d which delivers 184 HP and 380 Nm of torque. This, smaller engine has a combined fuel efficiency of 4.5 l/100km ( that's 52 mpg) which should be, at least satisfying, even though diesel is more expensive than gasoline in the US.
This new engine will complete the 3 Series' line-up which now consists of 3 petrol engines and a hybrid, becoming the broadest ever range in the 3 Series' history on the American continent.
