Ever since BMW decided to drop the naturally aspirated engines from its line-up you could hear all the posers in the world complaining about the sound of the new units.
Admittedly, in some cases, the sound is not as good as it could’ve been but minor alterations can make a big change. One of the most criticized choices the Germans made was the replacement of the naturally aspirated 5-liter V10 S85 engine on the M5 and M6 range.

That’s because the S85 was legendary in the sound department. You can hear it from a mile away and you can instantly recognize it, no matter the situation. It has a special feel to it that cannot be easily described.

Maybe that’s also why the S63 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine is having such a hard time. Sure, it’s not as loud as the V10 before it but it does have a nice sound to it, a deep, mean growl (and no, we’re not talking about the Active Sound Design one).

Making it louder is done through a new exhaust system. Eisenmann and Akrapovic are probably two of the best companies at doing such a job but other might also throw in their names in the hat.

One of them is Castro. Their GT Race Exhaust is simply amazing, offering exactly what the M6 needs, as you can see in the video below. Check it out and let us know if that’s loud enough for you.
