The new BMW 3-Series is a seriously competent car. Their range of engines can suit any needs, from company car drivers who just need an economical and comfortable car to eat up the motorway miles in, to keen drivers who will love BMW’s new turbocharged petrol units.
Eearlier this year, BMW introduced the 320i, 316d and 318d and now they’re adding yet more engines to the range in the form of a 316i (1.6-liter twin-scroll turbo with 134hp), a 320i Efficient Dynamics (2.0-liter turbo with 168hp) and the addition of xDrive (BMW’s all-wheel drive system).

Economy-wise, the 320i Efficient Dynamics has a claimed economy figure of 5.2 l/100km (54.3 UK mpg) with a CO2 rating of 124 g/km. The other big addition to the range is the offering of xDrive for the 320i, 328i and 335i petrol engines, with the 320d expected to get the system later in the year.

The 316i engine is expected to become available for purchase in the latter part of the year, and it will be available with both a standard six-speed manual and an 8-speed auto.
