For decades, the ultimate rival to the BMW M5 has been the BMW 5 Series. What? Let us explain. Alpina has for years delivered some of the coolest alternatives to the M cars, based on their lesser series models.
This one is the B5 Biturbo based on the 550i and it delivers. You can have it as an estate or a sedan or even buy it with a diesel as the D5.

The Alpina model is seen in this next clip shot by TouriClips during the Nürburgring Nordschleife Industry testing sessions earlier this year. You’re looking at 540 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque from a 4.4-liter V8. It’s altogether more subtle and elegant than the M5.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
