If you happen to be looking for an example of an identity crisis, the contraption sitting before you should do the trick. Perhaps having such a crisis of his own, the owner of the car decided that his BMW needs to become a Corvette.
To be more precise, the E39-generation Bimmer received arear end that makes us thing of the 'Vette. As you can imagine, it didn't take long until the vehicle started turning heads, obviously for the wrong reasons. And the Bimmer ended up on Reddit (it was spotted in Washington traffic), which is how it came to our attention.
Admittedly, the level of attention to detail is amazing, with the build looking clean. Of course, this doesn't make the car look less like a failure.
However, since we've seen our fair share of otherwise respectable vehicles that were ruined via tasteless modding, we have to admit that this BimmVette could've been worse. So, without further ado, here are some thoughts on the matter.
For instance, the thing comes with a 530i badge, which lets everybody know this is no plebeian four-cylinder car, but one powered by a straight-six. Then again, the owner could've turned to the favorite faux badging trick of BMW drivers, namely the good old ///M stunt.
Then we have the trunk lid, which, perhaps surprisingly, doesn't come with a wing the size of America. In fact, it doesn't come with a wing at all.
Oh, and let's not forget the tailpipes. It seems that whoever "designed" this contraption decided to be restrained, using one less exhaust exit than the actual Corvette, which comes with four tailpipes.
Last, but certainly not least, we must also mention the wheels. Sure, few things in the automotive industry are more subjective than wheel design, but at least this thing doesn't come with screaming 2X-inch units that promise to eat out the arches at the first bend.
