Consumer Reports has the 'bad' habit of testing every new model they possibly can, and that includes the new BMW 328i. In their comprehensive tests (over 50 in number) they manage to create a score sheet, ranking these cars based on how much they progressed compared to the previous models.
Amongst the criteria used for judging you'll find a combination of fuel consumption, design, interior space, viability and many many others. The BMW stood out with its improved efficiency and room for the rear passengers.

Compared to the E90 model, the F30 328i now has a 2-liter turbocharged engine compared to the 3-liter naturally aspirated unit used on the previous car. Not only that but the power output was also increased (245 vs 233) and the torque too (258 lb-ft vs 199 lb-ft).

With such improvements, the BMW received a 9 point increase, going from 77 to 86 in a top won by the new Chevy Impala that went from zero to hero, growing 32 points from 63 to 95 in this year's top.
