As usual, BMW will roll out a couple of updates for its models this summer, including for the 2 Series range. As it turns out, sources are claiming that the 225d model will get a new engine, part of the B family.
In case you forgot, the B family of engines represents the new age in terms of efficiency and performance at BMW. They are highly modular, up to 40 percent of the parts used being interchangeable between various mills.
They have been slowly rolled out once the new MINI Cooper was launched, the British cars being the first ones to use them, on the UKL front-wheel drive platform. After that, the 2 Series Active Tourer followed along with other BMWs.
In the 2 Series range, there are a couple of models using them already. The 218i and 220d are two of them for example. Starting this summer, it seems like the 225d will also get one.
This would be an interesting development as the 2-liter mill on the current 225d is a twin-turbo unit that makes 218 HP. The new one would, therefore, have to use two turbos as well and, it would be the first one of its kind in the BMW B-family.
Power is rumored to be improved as well, going up to 224 HP, that wouldn't be a terrible stretch. If this will turn out to be true, the BMW X5 xDrive25d will also get this engine as it uses the same mill as the 225d at the moment. We're also expecting the 525d to follow the same path.
