Best First Quarter in Chevy History

In a first quarter during which we witness record after record tumble, the announcement made on Monday by American manufacturer Chevrolet comes as no surprise. The car maker begun the week by announcing its sales numbers for the first quarter of the year, numbers that have come to represent its best first quarter in history.

Two years after mother company GM had to file for bankruptcy, its flagship brand posted worldwide sales totaling 1.1 million vehicles, an increase of 15 percent compared to the first three months of 2010.

The best selling market for Chevrolet was, obviously, the US, where 416,505 Chevys found new owners in the past three months. The car maker's new favorite market, China, accounted for 159,303 of the total, a number that is a record in itself and represents the biggest number recorded there.

Among the best selling nameplates, the Cruze is a model worth mentioning, given its 150,652 units sold.  The Cruze has become the flagship model for the American brand on the global markets.

"This is a great way to kick off Chevrolet’s Centennial year,” said Joel Ewanick, GM global chief marketing officer.  “Our first-quarter results are a clear indication that consumers are responding to our new product line, which only happens when you truly listen to the customer. "

"Chevrolet has developed strong connections with consumers in key markets across South America, Europe, and Asia. We look forward to strengthening those connections as we introduce Chevrolet to Korea, and as we introduce a growing lineup of global vehicles that build on the successful launch of the Chevrolet Cruze.”
