BBC Pedigree Ford Cortina Sold at Auction

Nostalgic motorists in the UK love the Ford Cortina. One example which perfectly illustrates this is the fact that a vintage Ford Cortina 2000GT formerly used by the BBC was sold for 2,200 pounds in the Top Car Sale BCA Blackbushe earlier this week.

The car proved to be a desirable piece of motoring, as multiple buyers bid for the Cortina from the auction hall, with others entering the “game” over the Internet via BCA live online.

The Ford Cortina Facelift Mk3 2000GT was one of the last GTs to roll off the production line and was on a 1976 “R” plate. The car was in BBC’s possession since 2007 and appeared in the television network’s Culture Show in the summer of that year, rolling its wheels over a series of famous UK movie locations which include Trainspotting, The Wicker Man, Brief Encounter, The Full Monty, 28 Days Later and Gosford Park.

The aforementioned Cortina was managed by Lex Autolease and it entered the auction as part of the company’s offer at Blackbushe. Eventually, the car went to an Internet bidder on NCA’s live online service.

The Cortina has 86,200 miles on its odometer and underwent a restoration process approximately 6 years ago. It was resprayed in black (the car’s current colour) and fitted with a set of chrome bumpers. The car uses its original 2 liter Pinto OHC petrol engine. The only modification is the replacement of the standard air filter with a performance one supplied by specialized producer K&N.
