Unleashed in April 2023, the 2024 model year Jeep Wrangler facelift has received a new paint color in the form of a rather audacious pink. Jeep enthusiasts may remember Tuscadero from previous model years, a color described by the American automaker as being a "deep and intense chromatic magenta."
From when it was added to the color palette in August 2021 through December 2021, more than 30,000 units were ordered in this Barbie-licious hue. A head-turning color that wouldn't look out of place on the streets of Malibu, Santa Monica, and Long Beach, said finish also celebrates 4x4 Day 2024.

Stellantis-owned Jeep claims that Tuscadero returned by popular demand, but something doesn't add up. FCA US LLC sales decreased 1 percent year over year in 2023, with the Wrangler posting a drop of 14 percent compared to 2022. More specifically, 156,581 units compared to 181,409 back in 2022.

During the first three months of 2024, the Wrangler improved by 1 percent over Q1 2023, moving 38,308 examples of the breed as opposed to 37,971 in the first quarter of 2023. Although there's room for improvement, Wrangler dominates the Bronco thus far into 2024. The Ford Motor Company reported 24,066 deliveries compared to 32,430 in the first quarter of 2023, as in minus 25.8 percent.

Turning our attention back to all things paint colors, Tuscadero joins eight other hues, beginning with the new-for-2024 Anvil. The remainder comprises Black, Earl, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Silver Zynith, Granite Crystal, and Hydro Blue. At press time, Tuscadero adds $895 to the final price of seven trim levels, including the Sport and Sport S.

Tuscadero is available on the Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, better-equipped Rubicon X, and V8-powered Rubicon 392 as well. The 6.4-liter naturally aspirated HEMI of the Rubicon 392 is living on borrowed time, with 2024 being the final year of the big-boy V8 in this application. Tuscadero will initially be paired with the black soft top, black hard top, or body-color hard top. Late in the second quarter, the new color will be available with the Sky One-Touch power top.

Pricing for the two-door Wrangler starts at $31,995 before destination, whereas the four-door-only Wrangler 4xe is a pricey fellow at $50,695 from the outset. Customers in the market for a manual are required to settle for the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which makes 285 ponies and 260 lb-ft (353 Nm).

The next step up is the 2.0-liter Hurricane turbocharged inline-four (270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet or 400 Nm), whereas the Hurricane-based 4xe plug-in hybrid matches the peak torque of the 392-cube HEMI (470 pound-feet or 637 Nm). Regarding horses, make that 375 ponies for the 4xe and 470 for the soon-to-be-discontinued 392.

It's not clear if the JL-series Wrangler is ever going to receive the 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo I6 of the Ram 1500 and the Wagoneer twins. However, we do know that 2025 will see the 4xe get an upgrade. Next year, the Gladiator 4xe will also be added to the lineup. Further into the future, the next-gen Wrangler is due in 2028 with range-extender electric and battery-electric powertrains. Its codename is J70.
