Auto Skills Winners to Experience Roush Racing

The winners of the 2009 Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition are in for a treat this year, as they will get the chance to spend a working week with Roush Fenway Racing, the defending Daytona 500 champion.

More specifically, they will have the chance to witness the team in action at Ponoco Raceway, during the Pennsylvania 500, on July 27. And if this isn't enough for you tech-heads out there, the winners will get three sets of tools from DeWALT.

"At Roush Fenway Racing, we truly embrace the importance of the Student Auto Skills competition and what it brings to the auto industry. The thousands of dedicated young people who put their hearts and souls into winning the nation's premier competition for aspiring automotive technicians truly are the future of the automotive industry," Roush Fenway Racing Team owner Jack Roush said.

But what is Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition? For those of you who don't know, the competition is the largest of its kind for high school automotive technology students. This year, 9,700 high school juniors and seniors competed. The final, to be held on June 14-16 will be host of 50 competing teams, each of them selected from those who managed the best to correctly identify and fix intentionally-installed "bugs" on identical Ford Focus vehicles.

"They have the character and drive it takes to be a winner in life and on the racetrack, and for this reason, we are proud to join DeWALT, Ford and AAA in encouraging more students to consider career choices in motorsports, automotive repairs and roadside problem-solving," Roush added.
