We've been very negative about everything Austin Mahone does. He's young; he's rich, and he can afford everything we want to buy, so it's natural to be a little bitter. But the guy has taste when it comes to cars, plus a bit of creativity.
That fact was clearly demonstrated when his BMW i8 got an Iron Man makeover, with gold wheels and chrome red covering the body. But the German luxury plug-in hybrid didn't stay as it was for very long.

The cool thing about wrapping is that it's completely reversible - like makeup vs. tattoos. So Austin took the i8 back to the same place he got the original wrap and ordered this rusted look.

It's something we see a lot on European cars like the Mk1 and Mk2 Golf GTIs attending the Worthersee Meet. But it's usually done only on top of the hood, whereas this is a complete transformation.

Also, the conversion completely fools the eye. You really might think the i8 was sanded down to the metal and left outside in the rain for a couple of years... were it not for the fact that most of the body is plastic, aluminum or some sort of composite.

Experience tells us that this cannot be a wrap, as the patterns match perfectly from one element to the next. It could be a plastidip with a hand-painted weathering effect on top. But the simple fact that we're not sure what it is proof that it's cool.

Metro Wrapz, the made the project happen, snuck its very cool skull logo under the wrap. As for the wheels, we think those are the same Vossen Forged VPS-305 alloys, tinted gold and sized 22×8.5 inches at the front and 22×10 inches at the rear. Yes, those are very tall and narrow specs, but that's how the i8 rolls. All the rubber is from Pirelli and should stick nicely to the road if Mahone ever decided to do drag racing.

And that's it. Considering how much money and time the singer has spent on customizing his BMW, it shows that he's in love with the i8. Maybe he should consider something a little more extreme, like adding a rear wing. We know we would!
