The Audi S3 used to be available only in Hatchback guise at first but now we have it in Convertible and Sedan versions and, to be honest, we like it more this way. While body style is an issue that might get some people riled up, the bits and pieces beneath the sheet metal are what attract us the most to this car and nobody can dispute and make a big fuss over.
While larger mills used to be fitted under the bonnet of older versions, along with the latest incarnation of the S3 moniker came a new engine that is now found onboard a couple other models, including the SEAT Leon ST Cupra that we just reviewed. Of course, they all have different power outputs but the end result is almost the same.

On the Audi S3, the 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged unit makes 300 HP. That’s right, 300 HP without breaking a sweat! Thought that’s too much for a 2-liter? Think again.

While Mercedes-Benz just gave its range of 45 AMG models a small bump in power, taking output up to 381 HP from 360 HP, German tuner ABT took it even further. Their new pack for the S3 takes the 4-cylinder up to 400 HP and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque.

Benefitting from Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system, that monstrous amount of power is very well distributed on the ground, without breaking traction. The 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time wasn’t disclosed just yet, but it’s safe to say that it was drastically improved from the 4.9 seconds an automatic can pull.

In their traditional style, the Germans from ABT didn’t do too much to the exterior of the car, just changing the wheels and grilles being considered enough. Oh, and the exhaust tips are also a dead giveaway, due to their generous size (they do come with a stainless steel exhaust after all).
