From the star, Audi's new compact sedan was designed to do two things: sell in America and sell in China. The automaker has even built a new factory in China specifically to make the A3 sedan.
However, this is not the A3 sedan, it's the S3 sedan, and it won't sell well in China, though it should make one lasting impression. Recently revealed at the New York Auto Show, the S3 sedan features the same drivetrain as two other S3 models, meaning a 2-liter TFSI engine producing 300 horsepower delivered to all four wheels.
It's unlikely that this performance saloon will be locally produced for now, but it's been spotted testing the People's republic ahead of its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in late November.
As far as performance is concerned, the A3 Sedan takes 5.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h with a manual and just 4.9 seconds when fitted with optional S tronic automatic. The four-cylinder turbo has a combined fuel consumption of just 6.9 liters per 100 km (34.09 US mpg).
