German carmaker Audi has unwrapped its new DTM (German Touring Car Masters) racecar based on the RS5 Coupe at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
Conceived as an evolution of the 2012 car, the new RS5 DTM will compete in this season's European touring car series with no less than eight vehicles, fielded by the Abt Sportsline, Phoenix and Rosberg teams.
Powered by a 4.0-liter V8 with an output of 500 HP, the Audi RS5 DTM will appear publicly for the first time at the DTM testing sessions on April 26, before being raced in 10 events hosted in Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Netherlands and Russia.
"The performance data of the current RS5 and RS5 DTM are very similar. Motorsport is an integral part of the Audi DNA and is not an end in itself for our company," said Audi's head of motorsport, Wolfgang Ullrich. "At the end of the day, our customers benefit from the victories on the racetracks, because we attach great value to technology transfer between motorsport and production."
The 2013 DTM season debuts on May 5, with the Hockenheim race in Germany.
