Audi RS 6 Avant GT Morphs Into a Proper Sedan, BMW M5 and E 63 S Aren't Worried

The Ingolstadt-based automaker just emerged from its usual and dull lethargy with a bonkers RS 6 Avant GT special edition of just 660 examples of the excellent RS 6 Avant performance.
It's inspired by the legendary Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO race car from 1989 and closer to our times by the apprentice RS 6 GTO concept from 2020. The limited series keeps the RS 6 Avant performance credentials, complete with the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 churning out 621 hp in the engine bay, and spices everything up to the tune of a local European MSRP of approximately $236k.

Since its announcement, folks have started paying attention to Audi once again, and news about the German company now abounds – from questions if this is a swan song or if Audi Sport will continue to make high-performance wagons (they will) to revealing that R8 production will actually continue due to high demand for the V10-powered supercar.

Interestingly, everyone and their mother understands why Audi chose this time to introduce the pinnacle of Ingolstadt-based station wagons – BMW just announced the all-new 5 Series Touring, and the i5 Touring comes dangerously close to stealing RS 6 Avant's crown because the M60 xDrive variant boasts no less than 593 all-electric horsepower.

Additionally, BMW is slated to come out with a new edition of the M5 series both in sedan and Touring form, and the rumor mill claims this model will keep the V8 engine under the hood and still make the E 63 S E Performance weep because the latter's four-cylinder PHEV assembly won't be a match for the V8 plug-in setup from Bavaria. So, what if Audi decides to join the skirmish?

For example, maybe they will have a change of heart and will one day deliver an RS 6 sedan to accompany the Avant model. In fact, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has already thought about that, and the virtual automotive artist tucked behind the j.b.cars social media label has another cool CGI idea - envision an unannounced and unreleased RS 6 GT sedan.

His changes are simple and easy to introduce in production, frankly, because it all comes down to changing a few panels at the rear of the station wagon for a classic four-door appearance. Unfortunately, it's utterly wishful thinking, and Audi will probably ignore it without even giving it so much thought. Besides, when the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E 63 S E Performance do come out, they won't worry about Audi's RS 6 Avant GT because they will boast more than 700 horsepower or even 800 hp.

However, irrespective of all these considerations, if you had to choose, which one would you take home: an Audi RS 6 GT Sedan, BMW M5, or Mercedes-AMG E 63 S E Performance?
