Boring is a vague and cruel way to describe Audis, but the German manufacturer certainly doesn't want to make any overstatements. Even the hot S models can pass unnoticed if you don't know how to spot them. But the all-new Q2 crossover may be the Lady Gaga of the family.
Until today, we weren't really sure what to call the car, as Audi's dispute with Fiat over the use of the Q2 name dragged on until the last moment. But it says "new Audi Q2" right there in the video title.
The smallest crossover in the Q family is not a Sports Activity Coupe, as the name might lead you to believe. There are no plans to make a Q1, probably because undersized vehicles are not profitable for luxury car companies. Instead, we're going to see a chopped version of the MQB platform at the Geneva Motor Show. In a way, it's going to be a sister car to the SEAT Ateca and engines will probably be shared between the two.
Anything that's painted as bright as a bumblebee is going to stand out in the Audi lineup. We're not 100% sure, but it seems that the Q2 sports the same Vegas Yellow color used for the S1 launch from two years ago. Despite the smoke and cloaking, the extra-large headlights are visible. The baby crossover is not going to come to America, just like the A1. However, it's going to be a great car for young hipsters, architects and fashion designers from all over Europe. The power department may be somewhat neglected as we expect initial models to offer between 115 and 190 PS. A 1.6 TDI makes a lot of sense for this type of car, as does its 2.0 TDI counterpart. We'll have to wait and see if the lovely 1.8 gasoline-fed turbo is also offered. All-wheel drive will be an option on some models, as should the 7-speed S-tronic gearbox that may be pulled from underneath the Tiguan.
