German automaker Audi is planning a major design overhaul in the near future as a response to its “scalable design” strategy being overly criticized.
According to Car & Driver, quoting company sources, the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer started operating several high-level changes in its design department, while hiring new “fashioners” at the same time.
With new designers coming from Bentley, Alfa Romeo and SEAT, the automaker’s Chief Designer Wolfgang Egger told our source that “the time of scalable design is over” at Audi, but refrained from revealed further details.
Ingolstadt’s new team of “architects” also includes Dirk van Braeckel, who is responsible for several Bentley vehicles, such as the Continental GT, Azure, Brooklands and the Mulsanne. The Belgian penned Skoda’s Octavia, Fabia and Superb models between 1996 and 2004 as well.
