The global launch of the third generation Audi TT took place last year. The Germans tried to link it to the new Avengers movie, but I don't think their plan was very successful. Instead, the bulk of the marketing boost came from a commercial called "Launch" where the coupe enters the stratosphere and lands using a sort of gigantic ski ramp.
A year later, the entire TT range has arrived in Japan. Will the expensive 2+2 coupe be able to compete in the land of the 370Z and GT 86? We don't know yet, but their launch strategy is out-of-this-world.
A sexy red TTS was chosen as the centerpiece of a special display. Together with a large runway made of LED screens, it was posted on the side of the Ginza Sony building in downtown Tokyo.
Every few minutes, a special light and sound show is played to fool people into thinking the TTS is aline and coming down that vertical runway. Of course, it's not a real car, since the 1.4-ton TTS would be way too heavy for the side of a building. But even if it's made from plastic, this German Lunar lander causes draws attention, even in a bustling metropolis like Tokyo.
In both cases, the S Tronic automatic gearbox with six speeds and the quattro AWD system come standard. However, this import coupe is more expensive than any 370Z model.

Japanse model has different specs
Two versions of the new TT are going to be sold in Japan. The basic one uses a 2.0-liter TSI engine to deliver 230 PS and 370 Nm of torque, the same as a Golf GTI Performance. The other features a more powerful version of the same mill, making 286 PS and 380 Nm of torque.Yes, it's the TTS, but as you can tell it comes with 24 less PS.In both cases, the S Tronic automatic gearbox with six speeds and the quattro AWD system come standard.
