As a matter of fact, EyesOn Design Honors found its winners just yesterday. Thus, Audi, BMW and Cadillac managed to convince the jury they have designed the most beautiful cars, the first one even succeeding in getting two prizes for the best designed production and concept vehicles.
In fact, this is the first time Audi gets an EyesOn Design award thanks to the design of Audi R8 V10 and to the Audi Sportback Concept. As for BMW, the awarded vehicle was the 2010 Z4 whose redesign was the result of an intra-company competition in which Nadya Arnaout and Julianne Blasi won.
Cadillac is already an ordinary winner at EyesOn Design with the CTS, CTS-V, and the CTS Coupe. This time, however, the Cadillac ConverJ was the one to receive a "Design Excellence Award" in the concept category.
The awards are decided by top design executives from automotive manufacturers and by academics from transportation design programs. To be eligible for the awards, the vehicles must debut during NAIAS. These judges are led by Founding Chairman of the EyesOn Design Awards Tom Gale (retired Vice President of Design at Chrysler), as well as the three Head Judges he selected for this year: Chris Bangle from BMW Group, Larry Erickson from College for Creative Studies and William "Willie" G. Davison coming from Harley-Davidson.
The awards were sponsored by SAE 2009 World Congress and Dassault Systemes but with the risk of being considered the devil's advocates this kind of awards don't keep automakers warm in a depression winter.
