Audi e-tron Races in Silvretta E-Auto Rally Montafon 2010

After German manufacturer Audi took its first electric vehicle, the e-tron, at the Le Mans 24 Hours race in June and gave it a spin around the track, the same car will now head to its first competition, the Silvretta E-Auto Rally Montafon 2010.

Set to take place in between June 8-11, the race will see Michael Dick, Audi member of the board for Technical Development, join factory driver Lukas Luhr for the three stages of the 167.5 km (104.08 miles) race through the Austrian state of Vorarlberg.

“We already received very good feedback on the Audi R8 e-tron in Le Mans,”
Michael Dick said. “In Montafon, the e-tron will put its potential to the test in ten different mountain, valley and timed special stages. This is a good opportunity to showcase Audi's integrated approach and to experience the fascination of electromobility in a sports car on the road.”

Wrapped in an Audi R8 body, the e-tron comprises four electric motors, two at the front and two at the rear axle, which generate an amazing 313 hp, as well as 4,500 Nm of torque. The motors allow the car to use all that instant torque and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.8 seconds.

For the Le Mans demonstration drive, as well as for the Rally Montafon, the battery in the R8 is located directly behind the passenger cabin. This provides a 42:58 weight distribution between the front and rear axles.

So far, Audi presented two more versions of the e-tron, the one shown at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and the A1-based e-tron from the Geneva Auto Show. At least one of them (or a combination of the three) will enter production sometime in 2012.
