Audi A7 Sportback Arriving in India in May

German carmaker Audi has previously stated it wants to expand its business in India with three new models, the A6, A7 and A8, which should all arrive there by the end of the year. While the A6 is earmarked to arrive in September, Audi has finally given the green light to the A7 Sportback.

Young Indian executives who find other German saloons just too boring will be able to sit behind the wheel of the Sportback after its official debut in May. The car will take on BMW’s GT and the Mercedes Benz CLS and is expected to arrive in both Diesel and Petrol forms.

The diesel could be the 3.0-liter V6 TDI that produces 150 kW (204 hp) and 280 Nm (206.52 lb-ft) of torque at 5,250 rpm. Audi has paired this engine with the S tronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive.

Meanwhile, a top gasoline engine will come in the form of the 3.0 TFSI that comes with a supercharger to compress the intake air for improved efficiency and performance. The three-liter V6 produces 220 kW (300 hp) between 5,250 and 6,500 rpm, and delivers 440 Nm (324.53 lb-ft) of torque between 2,900 and 4,500 rpm.

The supercharged engine is mated to the S tronic gearbox and a quattro powertrain on the European market, giving the five-door coupe the performance of a sports car. The standard sprint takes just 5.6 seconds, and top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155.34 mph).

According to IndianCarsBikes, the A7 Sportback could cost upwards of INR6 million ($132,000) for the base variant. This would mean it’s in the same price range as the BMW 5 Series GT.
