Ari Vatanen Announces Vice-Presidents for FIA Role

Ari Vatanen today decided to strike back in his campaign for the FIA presidency and announced his vice-presidents for his first mandate. The Finnish official selected his collaborates from a wide range of nations, most of them being located in Europe.

HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein from Jordan, Antonis Michaelides from Cyprus, John Naylor from Ireland, Arie Ruitenbeek from Holland, Kari O. Sohlberg from Finland, Mumtaz Tachincioglu from Turkey and Jack Wavamunno from Uganda will all support the former WRC champion, as they are amongst the 14 members of the FIA who previously announced their backing of Vatanen on September 11th.

Again, I'm delighted with this selection of people who have grouped behind me,” said Vatanen in a press release today. “Some of them represent countries that are very well-established in international motor sport, but others come from emerging nations. I think it is absolutely essential to have these reformist people, considering it is change we are seeking at the elections.

If we want to know, for instance, what needs to be done for motor sport in Africa, there can be no better person to ask than Jack Wavamunno. On the other hand, it is also important to remember that Hermann Tomczyk, my proposed Deputy President for Sport, represents DMSB, one of the biggest clubs of all,” added the Finnish candidate.

Earlier this week – and during the course of today also – Vatanen's counter-candidate Jean Todt received a real boost for the October elections after both FIA president Max Mosley and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone admitted their public support of the Frenchman. Todt met with the FOTA earlier this morning and will attend his first F1 race as candidate for the FIA presidency, in Singapore.
