According to recent media reports, Apple CEO Steve Jobs dreamed of making the company he presided over into a green automaker as well. We know the company was recognized as a sort of green manufacturer, with strong ambitions, but this plan would have surprised even us.
"Look at the car industry; it's a tragedy in America. Who is designing the cars?Steve's dream before he died was to design an iCar . . . And it would've been probably 50 percent of the market. He never did design it," said according to board member Mickey Drexler.
He made the announcement at a recent Fast Company conference on innovation, where he revealed that Jobs dreamed of a complete overhauling of the automotive industry.
While the idea might seems farfetched at first, 90 percent of cars sold in the US right now come with iPod connectivity, so Apple’s impact on the automotive industry is very much real.
Jobs drove a 2007 Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG without license plates by exploiting a loophole that stated you only have to put the plates on six months after buying the car, and so he sold his and bought an identical one twice a year.
Do the iCar Shuffle!
